The process of aging skin affects us all, and it can be disheartening to look in the mirror and see the fine lines, wrinkles, and saggy skin that aging inevitably causes. If you’re dissatisfied with your facial skin but aren’t ready for a full facelift, microneedling Winter Park can be an ideal option. If this is you, or if you’d like to learn more about treatment, contact a medical professional at MD Age Management in Winter Park, FL or Orlando, FL to schedule a consultation.

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling is an effective, minimally invasive treatment that works by rejuvenating the collagen beneath your skin. The result is a smoother, plumper, more youthful-looking complexion. It can also be effective at reducing the appearance of scars, making it helpful for patients suffering from the appearance of acne scars or stretch marks.

Why Is Rejuvenating Your Collagen Important?

Collagen provides structural support for your skin – it’s the reason your skin stays where it is on your body while you’re young and doesn’t sag and wrinkle. As you age, the collagen in your skin begins to deplete, resulting first in fine lines and wrinkles, and eventually leading to loose, saggy skin.

Microneedling Winter Park treatment provides gentle damage in the form of “micro-wounds” to your skin, which stimulates your body’s healing response. Its primary goal is to heal the tiny punctures inflicted via treatment. However, your healing response doesn’t stop there. It will also stimulate the skin to produce stronger, tighter collagen that can reduce or even eliminate fine lines and wrinkles and can help address slightly saggy skin.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Patients aged 20 years or older can be candidates for treatment. Generally speaking, most adults will be acceptable candidates. However, it isn’t typically recommended for younger people or teens because the treatment is designed to build more tissue. Your skin already creates healthy, youthful collagen during your early years and continuing on through your mid-20s. Most young people won’t need treatment.

It’s also important to be free from any infections prior to undergoing treatment. If you have a fever or a rash, treatment may make your condition worse. If your body is already fighting infection, you don’t want to stretch your healing response too thin by undergoing treatment. Doing so may have a significant effect on your results.

How Long Is a Treatment Session?

Sessions usually take about 30 minutes to complete, though it should be noted that not every patient has the same needs or issues. Since each individual patient has different needs, the time it takes to complete treatment can vary from patient-to-patient.

If you’re interested in treating a larger area such as your chest, legs, back, or buttocks, your session will be significantly longer due to the size of the treatment area. You’ll get a much better estimation of the time each session will take once your provider knows more about your aesthetic goals.

How Long Does It Take to See Results From Microneedling?

The amount of time it takes to see results will vary from patient-to-patient, though many of ours discover they can see results immediately following treatment. That’s because your body’s healing response is triggered immediately upon receiving treatment, and it starts to go to work right away.

If your face isn’t perfect immediately post-treatment, don’t worry! The most dramatic results take place after four to six weeks of treatment due to the time it takes for new, healthy collagen to develop. While that may seem like a long time, it really isn’t. Those who choose to undergo surgery often have far longer (and much more uncomfortable) healing periods.

Should Anything Be Avoided Post-Treatment?

Take a look at your skincare products after undergoing treatment and avoid anything that contains acidic active ingredients, retinol, and/or AHAs (glycolic acid). You’ll only need to avoid these products for two or three days, though it’s important to ensure your skin is healed before restarting. If you still feel like you aren’t 100% ready to restart your skincare routine, give it another day or two just to make sure.

Missing one week of skin care treatment isn’t going to have an effect on your skin – especially after treatment.
