What is the Voluma Lift?

Look in a good handyman’s toolbox and you are likely to find a collection of well used tools… many that can be used for multiple purposes. Often the handyman ingeniously uses combinations of tools to get a specific job done. As an aesthetic medicine physician specializing in non-surgical facial rejuvenation, I too have many “tools” to choose from- tools like the neuromodulators- Botox Cosmetic, Dysport and Xeomin and facial fillers- Juvederm, Restylane, Juvederm Voluma, Sculptra, and Bellafill. Like the handyman, I often combine tools to balance facial features, revolumize and  change the contours of the face to get the aesthetic outcomes my patients and I desire.

One of the many guiding principles of facial rejuvenation is to optimize the facial “convexities of light” . When you look at younger faces, you can see the roundness of the cheek and forehead that reflect light- our eyes sees this as youthful. When you look at older faces that have flattened, that are sagging and sinking, they have developed lines and folds-they have lost the “convexities of light”. Our eyes see these facial features as tired, older and less attractive.

The Voluma Lift is a technique of using the longer acting hyaluronic acid filler Juvederm Voluma in combination with neuromodulators (and  other fillers as needed under the eyes, around the nose and lips) to elevate and re-inflate facial features to more attractive positions and facial volumes. Juvederm Voluma is primarily used in the midface to restore lost facial volume and lift the cheeks and cheekbones to give you back the “apple of youth” in this area. The lateral brow, temples, and midface can all be re-volumized to give a more youthful, refreshed appearance without looking overdone. Juvederm Voluma has been formulated to last longer, up to 2 years and many patients continue to be happy with their treatment results beyond 2 years.
